The Kino One-Week Film Challenge at LSFF

Each month at our open-mic screening we ask the audience to write down film ideas that they’d like to see produced and screened at Kino. Then, in a wonderfully democratic way, we pull a few out of the hat and have people vote for their favourite. During the interval we invite anyone who wants to take part in making the film into the side room and somehow – a month later – we screen that finished short to a packed audience. How – and why – does it work?! Well, we just provide the idea, and bring folks together who want to make a new short and perhaps don’t have the resources to do it all themselves.

In January we brought our Challenge project to London Short Film Festival on a much larger scale. At our open-mic screening on 5th January a whole screening’s worth of challenges were issued. Documentary, fiction, some just plain wierd and some even wonderful! Click below to see the full film list.

Following our Saturday production meeting, we had ten filmmaking teams working on producing new shorts – based on these ideas – that were screened as part of LSFF at our event on Thursday 12th January. These are people who have never worked with each other before, and didn’t know each other from Adam before they came to Kino!
