 How They Get There, by Spike Jonze

In the film business everyone starts somewhere. You would be forgiven for seeing the words ‘Spike Jonze’ and ‘Short Film’ and thinking ‘aah, this must be his first film!‘ Or, as I thought, ‘okay, let’s see what the greats do when they’re on a micro budget!’.

Despite its modest 2 minutes, this is neither a first film nor a no-budgeter. And why should it be?! Quick-turnaround short movies are the life blood of many a filmmaker, big and small. They keep us on our toes, keep us learning. And, most importantly, allow us to experiment with how we tell the stories we tell. Because basically, it still comes down to the story. And there’s a story here, strongly told.

Whilst we’re unlikely to be seeing Mr Jones at Kino any time soon, don’t let that put you off sharing your stories with London’s indie’s film world. Next Kino : Wednesday 27th February at the Horse Hospital, Russel Square.
