Film of the Week :: Little Red Hoodie, by Joern Utkilen (2009)

Little Red Hoodie, Joern Utkilen (2009)

This week’s Film of the Week comes to you a whole day late(!), but I think it’s worth the wait. I first saw this at London Short Film Festival, where Rich Pickings (if you don’t know about these quirky events exploring film with new perspective, make sure you check them out) had put on a thought-provoking, out of the ordinary collection of short films around the notion of adolescence, growing up and the Lolita complex.

This film, by Norwegian-born Joern Utkilen, is a perverse modern-day re-imagining of the classic Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. Funny and depressing in the same breath, Little Red Hoodie is as bold in its telling of sexualised youth as in its use of some pretty interesting plurals…
