Sorry I’m late – the Kino challenge #2
Sorry I’m Late - by Marco Testoni, Luigi Frassetto & Nick Hayles
At Kino we famously give out challenge films to cheeky rule-breakers. Most commonly challenges are awarded to films that gently drift over the 6-minute mark (and others that career over it all guns blazing) or filmmakers who miss off that all important Kino logo on the end. But if you’ve been at a Kino in the last couple of months, you will have noticed a new addition to the evening’s entertainment.
Le grand Kino Monthly Challenge
Each screening, the audience votes on a “challenge”: food for the avid filmmaker who wants a project to sink their teeth into, and a helping hand to get the ball rolling. In the interval, intrepid filmmakers join us in a side room where the magic happens, we confer, teams come together and the pact is sealed…
At Kino #27, three such intrepid filmmakers accepted the challenge on the table: “That was, without doubt, the best funeral I’ve ever been to”. And we were delighted to see the result of their endeavours at Kino #28: Sorry I’m late.
Dark, funny and made on a shoe-string, this film encapsulates the true spirit of Kino. The filmmakers used wit and wile to get the film made in time and the result went down a treat.
As the Kino community continues to grow, we can’t wait to see how these monthly challenge films help to foster the filmmaking coming out of it. Watch this space.
